If this subject is offered to a student of our country, he or she may write pages on it due to its popularity and awareness amongst them. On one side, our country is supposed to be revolutionized by campaigns such as Digital India, but the actual story, regarding the present persisting education system in our country, is very sad. Education at any level in India is still suffering because of those conventional methods of teaching which are still being followed in the schools and universities of our country.

There are a few major challenges which our higher education system is facing which has been acknowledged successfully, but, unfortunately, the speed of rectifying these challenges is very slow. The problems, which the higher education system is facing includes poor infrastructure along with facilities, large vacant seats in the colleges are due to the less faculty available results in low student enrollment rate, poor research standards, and overcrowded classrooms. It's a great effort to ensure same quality higher education for students belonging to the families below the poverty line.

Students with poor backgrounds get exposed to another major drawback of costly private tuitions and coaching thereby becomes very difficult for them to crack any competitive exams. For instance, IIM Indore is one of the costliest institutes to study in. Due to lack of funds from the Government, the quality of research in the institutes of repute has also declined.

In most of the cases, the colleges which are established in the rural areas have extremely poor infrastructure and facilities with less faculty in number. The government is making new reforms, but the problem, then lies in the delay in its implementation. Due to limited workforce, the efforts put in are also not visible.

Few of the important challenges accounts for the consistent up gradation of the curriculum so as to remain updated with the recent advancement of science and its globalization. The requirement of systematic funding in colleges like IIM Bangalore to meet the demands of the various novels, innovative programs is very essential so that a meaningful and purposeful research work can be performed.

After discussing the major cons of the education system lets put some light upon the suggestions, which can implement for the progress of the system. The few points include revised package of the faculty, innovative practices which covers all shades of life, mobilization of resources, providing student interest education focusing on the areas of research based subjects, enhancing the other life skills rather than academics which can help to lead their life purposefully, public-private partnership which will introduce students to new industries and their demanding profiles, to introduce cross-culture programmes to enhance better understanding of the people belonging to different cultures, to stress upon the individual development in all walks of life, and last but not the least to focus and to cautiously focus on the major issues i.e. how to improve more and more in providing quality education.

Through this above discussion, we can draw a major conclusion that for the achievement and for sustaining quality in national, regional or international levels, there is a single most important points, i.e. suitable selection of staff with their consistent development, which can improve the condition of our education system at the grass root level.

Inventions and Innovation in Indian Higher Education

Inventions and innovation lie at the heart of engineering. For an engineer, it is the love and passion for technology which motivates them to constantly innovate, or for that matter opting to be an engineer in the first place. Invention is transformation of beautiful thoughts into palpable ideas; innovation goes a step further – it is the preparedness to mix novel ideas with commercial world to create beautiful products designed to impact the lives of the needy.

A WHO report estimates that, globally, there are 40 to 45 million people who are totally blind; 135 million have low vision and 314 million have some kind of visual impairments. Some students at the IIM Bangalore were so moved by this hard-hitting reality reported by the WHO that they invented a new aid for the blind. The students used their knowledge and passion to help people by using a device consisting of two video cameras, a computer, and a scanning light source. The system, much like a human eye, scans surrounding objects from two points; enabling the blind to walk without using sensory canes.

This beautiful story emanating out of the Indian university is a perfect example where students utilized their proficiency, skill, and innovative skills to convert innovative ideas into reality for common use.

In the annals of human history, technology and innovation have become two inextricable words. The technology today, is driven by the engineers which has also led to a tremendous increase in innovation capabilities. Innovation includes an end-to-end process, such that it extracts value through application. From minor quality improvements to cutting edge products and services, innovation plays a substantial role in each one of them. For many, it is the innovation which drives them towards inventions, which ultimately impacts the lifestyle of many. Students at the IIM Calcutta used a smartphone and a chip to calculate the moisture of soil. Imagine how advantageous it could be for farmers to conserve water in developing countries like India, where there is scarcity of water throughout the year.

More than the skill and knowledge, it is the zeal to work for humanity and create a product by effective and efficient use of resources is what drives the students to invent products targeting the needy. The progress of a country, one as historic as India, depends on the “innovative young minds”. It will be fare to determine that a country’s growth is always directly proportional to the innovative skills of the engineers it produces.

For many years, women were considered only second fiddle in the innovations, industry, especially in case of a startup, however, the changing global scenario has motivated and encouraged female innovators to come ahead and pitch in their ideas. Vrushali Prasade is a perfect role model for women aiming to establish themselves amongst the men.
She, along with her batch mates Shubham Mishra, and Harikrishna Valiyath; third year students from her college have built a Virtual Reality Headset – Tesseract under the company name Absentia. The device uses a mapping, clustering and resizing algorithms to convert any content which one can run on a laptop to 3D, 360 vision.

Research and Innovation – Key Ingredients for Academic Success

A key part of an institute’s unique learning atmosphere is research and innovation. These days, institutes have to offer opportunities to the students to implement what they are learning within their degree in real-life organizations and environments. Thus, Indian Universities develop communication, leadership, professional, and interpersonal skills, which greatly enhances the career opportunities for the students. Students at Indian Universities not only acquire the skills to establish a successful career, but also develop a global outlook, self-confidence, and leadership skills that sets them up for the hardships and positives in their life.

IIM Indore
IIM Indore
Founded in the year 1996, IIM Indore,  is a public research university based and built in Indore. It is the third University established in the metropolitan area of Indore.  It is ranked in the top 40 universities in the Asia-Pacific region and within India's top nine universities according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities, the U.S. News & World Report Rankings, and the QS World University Rankings.  It is ranked first in environmental sciences and ecology research within the Asian subcontinent, and is ranked 14th in the world, according to Times Higher Education. Another institute, IIM Bangalore, introduces students to traditional management programs, divided by incorporating in- depth research and present market volatility with a wide selection of science lessons, taught through majors and minors that include Economics, and entrepreneur ships. Also, the students are introduced to business administration subjects such as marketing, management, accounting, statistics, computing, human resource management, and finance. The subject contributes to the various units of an organization. It develops an extensive skill that is required for administrating national and international organizations. The degree also offers flexibility of lesson choices such as accounting, law, or organizational psychology.

In various Indian universities, the students learn about ways to manage, restore, and protect our environment. The course allows them to study both the social and scientific aspects of the environmental field. The students are introduced to environmental issues and also learn about the science and technology connected with environmental science. The degree ensures a solid grounding in one of the five science majors like Biology, Chemistry, Climate Science, Environmental Earth Science, and Spatial information. Also, the Students gain specialist knowledge and skills in environmental management.

Eventually, three fundamental values are inculcated in the students from the beginning. Scholarship:They believe that learning, queries, and inventions improve lives; Integrity: To conduct the students ethically and, equitably for mutual benefit; Empowerment: To make the society a source of strength and creativity.

To suffice, it can be conveniently interpreted that the Indian institutes can go a long way in shaping the future and the role of the foreign as well as hybrid institutes developed in the recent times. Such colleges, apart from offering state of the art facilities have also started offering exceptional and unique courses, which may help the student community  grow and become strong leaders of tomorrow. Such is the global reach and impact of the Indian universities.
