How to Prepare Children for Preschool

The thought of the first day at preschool is the one that gives jitters to both the parents as well as the children. After all, it is the first moment when your child steps into the outside world. So, it is bound to create fears and excitement on the part of parents as well as children. But, the reasons for these jitters are different on both the sides. Let us have a look on them and see how these can be overcome.

As a parent, there are several issues of concern that will arise in your mind. As this is your first experience of living without your child, you might have several fears like will your child be able to live without you for that long? What if they get lost in that huge school building of Toddlers Junction? Whether they can ride to the bus all by themselves? There can also be concerns like whether the teacher will pay attention among so many students or how you will your child get adapted to the new environment? On the other hand, the parents can be very excited to see their little one in that uniform, packing their bags and the tiny lunch box for the first time, or simply the hug that you are going to give them when they come running from the classroom.

No matter whether you feel the positive vibes or the gray shades of anxiety, you need to share them with the child, but in a way that the child gets stronger and happier. You should learn to recognize your emotions and then the art of managing them. Because if you are not at peace with these feelings, how will you make your child confident?

Golden Bells Play School

The children feel the jitters for a whole lot of different things and much more than their parents. The most common fear is that the parents will decrease their love by sending them away from themselves for so long. So, the obvious concern for children is how will they survive without their mother? Who will help them tie their shoelaces? Who will be their new friend? Will they be able to enjoy the class in Golden Bells Play School? And many such questions conquer their minds. So, as a parent, it is your responsibility to overcome your child’s anxiety and make them happy, excited and cheerful about their first day of school. For your help, below are a few tips-

·        Listen to them- Before you can help them, it is really important that you get fully aware what exactly your child’s concerns are. You need to know what exactly bothers your child and then approach them accordingly.

·       Boost their self- awareness- As the child will enter a world fully unknown to them, it is important that you boost their self-awareness by helping them memorize little things like the house address, your mobile number, age, etc.. Also, ensure that they are able to know and spell the correct name of their body parts. All this would help with the safety of the child.

·         Read good books about the preschool- By telling them some good stories of the kindergarten, you can make them familiar to the experience. Also, the children will get motivated and recognize that they are not alone in this journey.

·         Make routines early- Just before the school starts, make their routine early according to the school. For instance, maintain the sleeping and waking up time of the child. By doing so, the child will not have a problem in adjusting to the daily routine as there will be no major change.

Some Tips to Improve the Child Psyche

Teenage is the time period in a child’s life which is a very vulnerable period, both for the child as well as the parents. It is a period in which the teenager might fall into the addiction, or get into depression, or might also get into risky situations. However, these teen years are also important for developing necessary strategic thinking skills. It is the age at which the foundation for advanced reasoning is laid upon, which is continuously polished along with complexity and maturity throughout adulthood.

Although, during the teenage years the whole body undergoes physical changes,  but the brain undergoes maximum changes except the initial one or two months of life. The changes are observed maximum in the frontal lobe of the brain, which is also known as the command control center in a layman’s term. The frontal lobe of the brain is responsible for reasoning, planning, decision-making, judgment, and other high-level cognitive activities. Therefore, the major development of the frontal lobe of the brain should be kept under check and maximally under control.

Since the world is working according to the strategic idea that most of the educators, teachers and parents have a belief in is that “More the information the better it is”, the teenagers are constantly being ignored to the idea of creativity. This robotic usage of the brain is not leaving any source of inspiration for them. Some schools like the Delhi Public School R K Puram have stressed on the importance of early brain development. Instead of running behind the petty things in the world, it should they should be taught about the world of innovation.

How to Improve Pedagogical Skills?

Want to improve your child’s pedagogical skills? Or want to increase his love for the numbers and make him great at it? Since every child is good at some things while he/she may lag behind in others, he/she might need help to improve at weaker areas. Hence, here are a few tips that will greatly help your child in strengthening their mathematical skills and make them good at it.

Do not pressurize your child to learn the figures and formulae rather develop newer ways to spark his/her interest in mathematics. There are many top schools like the Delhi Public School Gurgaon  which can help you do it. Here are few of them for your help-

v  Make them aware of numbers by taking examples from home itself. There are many things like the calendar, a TV dial, a cereal box, and many more. Ask your child to always write the number he/she notices and is able to identify.

v  Take your child along shopping with you and they will get a lot of opportunities to play mathematics games with you. For instance, ask your child to add up the number of license plates in the car parking. Ask them to count the things you have bought and keep adding them to get a total number of commodities you both have added to your cart. Moreover, if the child is in the age of multiplying, ask them to calculate how much three packs of their favorite biscuit costs, if one costs 30?

v  The next time you take your child out for dinner, give the menu in their hand to choose food first and then while you wait for the food to be served, spend time playing with them. Ask your child to see which is the least expensive item in the menu list? Or simply to add the cost of food you have ordered.

By following this way, you will find that your child gets easily familiar with numbers and does not hesitate while seeing them in the book.

v  It often happens that the child forgets the learnings during his summer break. Avoid that summer drain by making them memorize these concepts through games and other activities. The kitchen itself is a great place for your little one to be great with numbers. He would love to help you in bringing the tomatoes, potatoes, etc… and being an assistant chef. You can ask him for counting, adding, estimating, while making a dish.

Include your child while cleaning their bookshelf and toy room. Challenge your budding architect to make a tower using the maximum number of blocks he can in a minute, then ask him to calculate the number of blocks he used, to count the blocks of same color, and other such questions. Activities like these are an inclusive part of schools like the Delhi Public School Vasant Kunj.

v  Last but not the least, the time clock in the house can play the most interesting role in teaching your child the basics of mathematics. And how to use it for this purpose is something that needs no explanation.

Thus, if your child runs away from mathematics, you first need to make them comfortable with it and then only you can expect children to be good at it. Follow these interesting ways which are better than teaching through books alone and you will find the results yourself.

Since the exam is meant to judge all the candidates applying into various courses, the pattern of the exam is quite different from the generally held management entrance exams like the CAT or MAT exam. This exam is a gateway for admissions in colleges like the IIT Mandi management programmes, There are 100 questions which have to be solved in a span of 100minutes. There is no negative marking. The exam consists of mainly three sections, namely, General Awareness, Quantitative and logical ability, and Verbal Ability. Now let us discuss the section wise pattern and the preparation tips.

1.      GENERAL AWARENESS- This section consists of thirty questions of one mark each. Broadly, the GK can be divided into two sub-heads: static GK and current affairs. The static GK is a time-demanding topic and hence should be started early. Also, the GK syllabus is not defined so one has to do the general topics themselves. The book by Lucent Publications on GK is a good resource. The questions on current affairs are usually based on the past two to three month old issues. So, newspaper reading is a must and having the general awareness can help you score better. You should do this section either at the first or at last as this would not take much time for answering what you know and for those which you do not, you can make a guess thanks to the absence of negative marking.

IIT Khargpur
IIT Kharagpur
Quantitative and Logical Ability- This section has 35 questions of one mark each. It can be further segregated into two parts- mathematics and logical reasoning. In Institutes like the IIT Kharagpur, the test comprises the questions on the topics like ratio and proportion, time and work, averages, numbers, probability, volumes and surface areas, etc.. The major focus should be kept on the arithmetic section that has the highest weightage. As regards to logical reasoning, there are five to six questions based on it. The books for this section are-

·         Quantitative Aptitude by R.S. Aggarwal
·         The Hand on Guide to Analytical Reasoning and Logical Reasoning by Arihant publications.

3.      VERBAL ABILITY- This section has 30 questions carrying 35 marks. It includes reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and critical reasoning based questions. The vocabulary is tested throughout the section in one way or another. So, that should be well enhanced to ace the exam. The questions are really tricky so you need a lot of practice for this section.

Ways to Improve Hygiene and Sanitation in the Rural Schools

Hygiene and sanitation are the two most important requirements in any school, along with other things.  These two basic requirements are not only required in the urban schools instead they are equally required in rural schools as well.

Let's look into some important facts related to the schools in rural India. It might be an eye opener for us or might act as an alarm for us.

v  There are 6.3 Lakh primary and upper primary schools in rural India.
v  Out of these, only 44% have the proper water supply, 19% have urinals and 8% have lavatory facilities.
v  Among above only 19% have separate washrooms for girls and boys and 4% have separate lavatory facilities.
v  These figures lead to consequences that from the above percentage around 0.6-0.8 million children suffer from diseases such as Typhoid, diarrhea, and etc.

This small list of facts and figures is also one of the reasons behind the gradual decrease in the number of girl students. Therefore, here it becomes important to highlight the significance of the water supply, along with hygiene and sanitation. The schools like the American Montessori Public School should take up responsibilities of these rural schools. These factors promote health and hygiene behavior at an early age; improves the health of the students and decreases the drop-out rate drastically, including girl students, once these factors are observed with great importance then a generational change can be observed as children can lay a foundation for the next generation.

The Government can provide support in the schools through:
•Promotion of the provision of water supply and sanitation facilities.
•Objectives and standards can be designed for construction of facilities.
•To create an environment for productive result through hygiene education activities to ensure that facilities are properly used.
• Monitoring and regulating the implementing agencies.
• To regulate and ensure teacher training.
• To ensure appropriate legislation.

A variety of activities related to school sanitation and hygiene (SSH) include providing facilities that require approval and finance for hygiene education, which may require a change in curriculum, curriculum development for informal education and much more.  The involvement of various schools likes the A.P.L. Global School and possibly NGOs are required to accomplish the respective requirements in a comprehensive way on the implementation of  the SSH. Many organizations can be involved like the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Public Works Department, international organizations, NGOs and the Teachers Organizations.

At last, it would not be wrong to quote an example of various NGO’s and the works being done by them. There are NGO’S such as Centre for Health Education, Training and Nutrition Awareness (CHETNA), a non-governmental support organization based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, which are involved in the promotional activities of health of women and children for more than a decade. Presently, CHETNA works as a support organization which works through its other two centers, that  one of which is the Child Resource (CRC), and Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS). Both the sister companies work in coordination for the women and children’s health and sanitary issues. The conduct programs which provide food supplements and gives health education to children below three years of age.

Ways to Promote Leadership Amongst Students in College

The development of leadership qualities amongst the student in the colleges and the universities is a very difficult task, but is not impossible. Most of the renowned thinkers and philosophers have suggested that increased participation of the students in extracurricular activities such as leadership training and internships, thereby designed to promote the development of leadership qualities. These activities further help to strengthen self-confidence, self- perceptions of the ability of leadership qualities, and the skills related to public speaking and addressing a large mass.

IHM Mumbai

Leadership is supposed to be focused upon on the fulfillment of the mission and achievement of the set goals of a specific organization. The years spent in Institute of Hotel Management Mumbai are crucial for students' with respect to their personal, social, and professional development. The more there is involvement in the college activities more positive will be the outcomes related to development. The learning of a student and its development at a personal level is directly proportional to the active participation of the students in the activities conducted in the schools and the colleges resulting in the individual experiences of leadership qualities.

The student development accounts for the influence through three sources that are the backgrounds of the students; the characteristics of the organization belonging to some of the best management colleges in India, which the student has attended; integration at both the levels that are social and academic. The colleges can offer students leadership opportunities through organizing activities for students such as program mentoring, leadership courses, sports, and volunteer activities.

The Organizational hierarchies were designed, and to stress and categorize the decision making to centralize both authority and information, and to distinguish between the talents and their functions. This effectiveness of hierarchies is facing a threat by the overloaded information available on the Internet. This affected hierarchy is further affecting the dominance of the leader in any organization and thereby it has become difficult for the students to realize the necessity or the importance of the leadership qualities.

Today, the great demand for student community is not only to cope, to thrive in the pool of the knowledge available on the internet. New skills and expertise are required to be attained by the students so as to be at par with others of the same age group which automatically will be an added advantage for the students, the future regarding the acquirement of the leadership qualities.

In the end, this discussion leads to the conclusion that there is the need for an Effective Leadership Development with a new approach. An approach considering the re-evaluation of hierarchy, emphasizing diversity, complexity, and interdependence is important for the students. Further, the implementation of an effective student leadership development program will lead to a sustainable practice of leadership. Amongst many other factors, this factor is most important that the students should be taught about how to sharpen their skills leading to the identification of their own beliefs, values, emotion, and practices. Students who already have experienced an effective leadership as part of their education are expected to make changes in society as this commitment was inculcated in them from their universities and colleges.

If this subject is offered to a student of our country, he or she may write pages on it due to its popularity and awareness amongst them. On one side, our country is supposed to be revolutionized by campaigns such as Digital India, but the actual story, regarding the present persisting education system in our country, is very sad. Education at any level in India is still suffering because of those conventional methods of teaching which are still being followed in the schools and universities of our country.

IIM Indore
IIM Indore
There are a few major challenges which our higher education system is facing which has been acknowledged successfully, but, unfortunately, the speed of rectifying these challenges is very slow. The problems, which the higher education system is facing includes poor infrastructure along with facilities, large vacant seats in the colleges are due to the less faculty available results in low student enrollment rate, poor research standards, and overcrowded classrooms. It's a great effort to ensure same quality higher education for students belonging to the families below the poverty line.

Students with poor backgrounds get exposed to another major drawback of costly private tuitions and coaching thereby becomes very difficult for them to crack any competitive exams. For instance, IIM Indore is one of the costliest institutes to study in. Due to lack of funds from the Government, the quality of research in the institutes of repute has also declined.

In most of the cases, the colleges which are established in the rural areas have extremely poor infrastructure and facilities with less faculty in number. The government is making new reforms, but the problem, then lies in the delay in its implementation. Due to limited workforce, the efforts put in are also not visible.

IIM Bangalore
IIM Bangalore
Few of the important challenges accounts for the consistent up gradation of the curriculum so as to remain updated with the recent advancement of science and its globalization. The requirement of systematic funding in colleges like IIM Bangalore to meet the demands of the various novels, innovative programs is very essential so that a meaningful and purposeful research work can be performed.

After discussing the major cons of the education system lets put some light upon the suggestions, which can implement for the progress of the system. The few points include revised package of the faculty, innovative practices which covers all shades of life, mobilization of resources, providing student interest education focusing on the areas of research based subjects, enhancing the other life skills rather than academics which can help to lead their life purposefully, public-private partnership which will introduce students to new industries and their demanding profiles, to introduce cross-culture programmes to enhance better understanding of the people belonging to different cultures, to stress upon the individual development in all walks of life, and last but not the least to focus and to cautiously focus on the major issues i.e. how to improve more and more in providing quality education.

Through this above discussion, we can draw a major conclusion that for the achievement and for sustaining quality in national, regional or international levels, there is a single most important points, i.e. suitable selection of staff with their consistent development, which can improve the condition of our education system at the grass root level.
